No trading 2006 shows until the new album drops. You're out of luck 'till then.

October 17, 2006 is the release date.

As well, it is good form to wait at least 2 weeks after an event before asking for a recording. Tapers have lives too!

On the European tour DVDs we will be including a section called "Hipfans At Work" in an effort to try and explain to the masses what it takes to get a recording and then create a DVD and distribute it.

For those who think it's really easy, why aren't you taping and distributing every show???

Even in towns that they play "all the time" there are very few people who tape and distribute their recordings...

You need to be one of the first ones in, and are often one of the last to leave. You can't have fun with your friends - you can't even talk to them as their voice and yours will spoil the recording. No dancing. No singing. No moving from your spot. No bathroom breaks.

Watching a show through a 3" LCD screen when the band is in the same room really drains the life from the concert... but that's what 8 of us did on the recent European tour.

And then there is the editing... hours and hours spent in front of a computer splicing together bits of footage into a complete concert. Sure we enjoy doing it - it's our hobby - but that doesn't mean we have to do it to any timeline other than our own.

I'm at a point now where these DVDs will probably be the last that I create and distribute because I am sick and tired of all the ignorant emails I get from fans demanding that I get a show completed and distributed becuase they "just have to have it!!!"

So for those who think that they deserve a DVD of a show, or those who don't take the time to think about what goes into making these DVDs please think twice before sending me an email asking for a show.

After the Toronto shows I got about 3 - 5 emails a week from people asking when they can have it. They stop asking after a month or so... but start again with the next show.

The European shows haven't been as bad... probably because I told every person I saw that it wouldn't be out until October.

This is not a new phenomenom; I recall writing a similar post regarding the two DVDs from the Hummingbird Centre in 2002.
