you won't (or at least shouldn't) fund a torrent of this because it is an offical release. check ebay to get a copy cheap

that's copyrighted material. if anyone wants it, go out and buy it, like mark said.

Just playing devils advocate:)

Since this is not available to purchase anymore through regular channels, can we not put this onto a DVD and torrent as long as there is no financial gain? We can not get the broadcasts from CBC like Vanity and such and we torrent those and they are copyrighted?

I'll email the band, and see what they say.

TV broadcasts and commercially released videos are very different in this situation as the argument surrounding the "legality" of torrenting TV programs is based on the fact the downloader is simply creating a digital copy of a show that they watched when broadcast.

I'm in favour of torrenting Heksenketel on The Hip Tracker, but not until we get the OK from the band.

Here's what I wrote:

Hello Das Hips!

I run the site hipfans.com and the Bit Torrent tracker located at http://tracker.hipfans.com Through the tracker we freely distribute fan recordings of your shows. Thus far more than 200 shows have been distributed to more than 1500 fans!

Recently the topic of your 1993 video Heksenketel has come up, and whether or not we can post it to the tracker for distribution. This item is no longer available in stores or online, and the only opportunity for fans to experience this video, though few and far between and always expensive, is through eBay. So my question is, can we post a digitized version of Heksenketel to the tracker for free distribution between fans?

Your response is eagerly anticipated.

Best regards,

Chris

yeah maybe.. I hope they consent, I dont know how long my VHS Heksenketel will last. I dont have the means to rip it to dvd at the moment, this would be a great help. Its more about preservation than copyright infringment in this case.

Here is the response I received:

------------------
Hello Chris Chris, and thanks for your email.

Let me assure you that I am aware of the issue with availability of this item and am working on solving it in the future and as a result, I would ask you not to make this item available on your site or any other.

I very much appreciate both the work that you do, I have brought it to the attention of TTH - and the fact that you took the time to ask about this item. If there is anything else I can do for you in the future, please let me know.
------------------

That said, let's wait and see what they say next.
