Downloading now, thanks for the info! :thumb: Also the Mod Club show (radio) is up there as well.

FYI: A good habit I like to get into is once the download is complete, I like to leave my window open for at least the same amout of time it took me to download. It seems only fair. :thumb:

It's better to base it on amount transferred and your share ratio than the amount of time. But either way, sharing is what makes BT work.

Is this different than the one that was up a while ago? I downloaded that version, but it isn't the greatest audio. How is the quality of this version?

Not sure - if you check the notes you'll find out if it is the same source or not. Haven't had a chance to listen yet......

Chris, what is the rule of thumb for upload/downupload ratio? I generally wait until I'm at about 3:1 before I close out a window. If I do it before then it is only if there is a ton of seeders. So I'm just curious what is considered fair. Thanks in advance!

Most people suggest that amount downloaded = amount uploaded.

Are you looking at your share ratio, or the availability.

If it is share ratio, that's fantastic, and if more people played that way, BT's would all move along super fast.

If it is availabilty, don't use it as a guide. Check how much you've upped in comparison to downloads. If you've uploaded more than you've downloaded, good stuff!

It's my share ratio. I don't have much to upload - in fact the only stuff I do have (SHN and Flac-wise) is stuff that I've taken off of etree (Hip, Wilco, Los Lobos and Ben Folds). I've got a couple of dozen Hip boots (mostly from Rory) but they are all in MP3 format and I've come to learn how much traders detest MP3s, and I didn't keep the original CD-Rs. Since I don't have much to upload, I think I should be sharing what I do have as much as possible.

No, no, no... I think you have misunderstood me. The upload should equal the download for the specific show you are downloading (and by extension your total upload = download).

If a show is 4 Gb, and you have downloaded it completely; you should now upload at least 4Gb of that show.

I hope that made sense.

Gotcha. Thanks! So, if I've downloaded 4Gb of a show and I leave it open until 12Gb of that same show has been uploaded from me, then I'm doing my bit (pun intended)? Good to know!

Luckily for me (in terms of appearing generous, at least) I never get download speeds that greatly outstrip my upload rate...so by the time I'm done with a torrent I've pretty much already uploaded as much as I've taken.

This Edmonton show sounds fantastic...I wish I'd had better luck getting tickets!!! These club shows make 500 people happy and 10,000 people mad.

That sounds like you have a firewall issue. Most users of BT achieve very high download rates if their software/hardware is configured to let the traffic through. Double check all of your settings and make sure that ports 6881~6889 are open on your firewall software, hardware, router, etc. And that they point to your computer, if you have more than one computer sharing the same internet connection.

I don't mind helping people out from time to time, but doesn't anyone know how to use a help file, read a FAQ on the software site, or follow installation instructions????
gratts99 wrote:how do you open your ports to them!
The answer to that question will depend on what your setup is with regards to hardware and software.

If you read that post, in Willie The Janitors voice, the exclamation point at the end works.

Chris...I disconnected the stupid router because it was absolutely ruining torrents for me. Now I'm hooked straight into the cable box getting 15-25 k/s on my good torrent. I'm getting 9-10 on the other one. Are these considered "high download rates"? What's normal? I did a quick calculation - total speed 450k divided by the 34 peers I am connected to - and it looks like the average speed is 13.23 k/s... so I am assuming I'm above average (on the good torrent) unless I read something wrong.
