It's a work in progress, but perhaps the addition of some users might spark some new ideas.

http://www.hipfans.com/shows
Username: hipfans
Password: archive

The username and password will change regularly to prevent excessive leeching, and allow time for updates, etc.

All changes will be posted to hipfans.com.

The google ads are not just for show, so please check them out as I can imagine our bandwidth costs being quite high at times.

All new shows will be posted to the tracker first. Once they are sufficiently distributed they will be added to the archive. We will be adding older shows to the archive regularly. Hopefully we can create a single source for all of the fan recordings that are out there.

Commenting, rating, etc are all planned, I/we just need to figure out how to do it.

Sean Bonner has created a 30 second MP3 sample of each show - you'll find it in the folder of each show.

Questions, comments, ideas, etc are all welcome.

Thanks Dana! Hopefully this can become a complete collection for all of us. Never needing to worry about deleting a show accidentally, losing a back-up DVD, etc, etc.

And hopefully there are some skilled Hip fans out there who can contribute their computer skills to improve the functionality of the site.

So cool. Thanks for setting this up. Can't wait for all the years to start filling up with shows. But it's already a great archive with all those 2007 shows!

It's a slow process, but we are getting there. I'm focussing on 2007 right now, but have my hard drive at work loaded with about 50 other shows from various years. Oh the joy of having a REALLY fast unlimited net connection at the office!

chris..

have you ever seen the Live Music Archive website?

http://www.archive.org/details/etree

a bunch of bands i listen to (Tea Leaf Green, Phil Lesh + Friends) have fans taping their shows every night and they can usually be found 1-3 days later on this site

the site allows for FLAC + VBR MP3 files
allows fans to stream an entire show, a specific song, or download the entire show
user friendly for people who don't like torrents or prefer streaming over downloading

not sure if you've heard of this website before..
or if it's something you'd be interested in looking at (the band would most likely have to give consensus before being allowed on the LMA)

I'm quite familiar with the site... it wasn't a coincidence that I named the site the Hipfans.com "Live Music Archive"...

The band was asked about archive.org in the past and no authorization was given. And besides, the group of fans/tapers/traders/etc that help to maintain the tracker decided that we wanted to create something for us. Something that is ours.

the other LMA is very impersonal to the specific band

just wanted to inquire if that had been thought of as an option

thanks chris!

Thanks Brian. They have a tonne of great features that we'd love to have on ours right now, and in time I know we will. New Hip graphics are being developed and some other Hip-centric ideas will be implemented as the site evolves. And if fans don't like it, it will return to our personal archive. :)

Thanks Dave. The next task is to create a database instead of just using php to search the directories and file names... so feel free to take a crack at it if you want; just let me know so that we don't have multiple people working on the same thing. :)

For now we're fine regarding hosting as I have:
630.17 GB Disk (Grows 2 GB / week)
Used: 30 GB (4.8%)
7.34 TB BW per Cycle (Grows 40 GB / week)
Used this Cycle: 13.2 GB (0.2%)

But if this takes off and it becomes an issue I'll be looking your way.

Looks good Chris. Tyring it now. Dwnld times are slow but that's on my end, we have the worst connections here at work..gerrr. :( I've been wanting a couple shows that are up there so I'm gonna grab them.
Is it 1 person at a time to be logged in or multiple, cuz if someone wants in and is faster I'd jump off.

Thanks!

It will accept multiple connections at once, and should provide relatively consistent high transfer speeds (depending on network traffic, number of users, your connection, etc).

Hey Chris, you said early in this thread that all changes will be posted to Hipfans.com.
Does that include all newly added shows?
Just curious if there will be someplace to see if any additional shows have been added since last time someone visited.

Chris,
Do you have a favorite from the bunch. Maybe an older show worth grabbing. I was going through some of my boots the other day and it's quite a difference from year to year about how the band has transformed. Now it's a great performance but a bit more like a well oiled machine and not as "daring", experimental maybe is a better word.

If you could can you throw up Buffalo 2000-12-20 and Darien Lake 2002-09-01 if you get time. My copies shit the bed.
Thanks.
Mark
