Why don't we have a Hip hub on DC++?

Anyone got the skills to create a Hip hub? I'd join and be on it 24/7, a much better way for us to swap files...

I think it's better than bittorrent because it's a diverse amount of files you share with likeminded music fans, and it's much faster...

Every kind of file can be shared via Bit Torrent, as can any amount of files. It just requires people to contribute. And speeds are determined by users willingness to upload, the number of users, and their transfer speeds.... just like Bit Torrent so DC isn't any faster than BT.rocketsan22 wrote:I think it's better than bittorrent because it's a diverse amount of files you share with likeminded music fans, and it's much faster...
And Bit Torrent is available for Mac and PC users alike. DC is Windows only; Boo!

I may be somewhat ignorant here, so feel free to correct me, but with DC++, aren't you just connecting to one user? I can't see how that could possibly be faster than Bittorrent.
Sure the selection may be more diverse, but I'm more of a speed fan, so I'm sold on BT.

If you connect to 10 people on BT, and connections are good, a downlaod can fly,if your computer allows it, mine sometimes screws up if I'm downloading at a rate too fast, maybe there are things I can change for that not to happen

That's very true. My connection at work allows for downloads up to 600kb/s and with torrents that have lots of users, I've reached that many times.habsfan19 wrote:That is correct from what I know of DC++

Most BT clients will allow you to set a max download speed. I always keep my max just below my connection max.

It's rare, but on a few torrents on these sites when there are well over 200 seeds/leeches I get incredible speeds!
u2torrents.com
dimeadozen.org
And many random movie torrents through isohunt.com
Even with Hip stuff on our tracker I get into the 300s from time to time. If you're not reaching really high speeds, you probably have something configured improperly. I spent the first three months of my Bit Torrenting with a weird firewall setting on my computer (one that I didn't know existed) limiting my speeds. Once I sorted that out, the speeds increased dramatically.

I can get high speeds on my computer but sometimes if there's more than 50 or so seeds that I'm connected too, torrent freezes
Also sometimes when the speed gets over 120kb/s , or 100-150, varies, computer reboots, machine can't take it
I cap them around 100, still very fast for me

At home I usually get 40-90 from Chris and btree.
But when Livedownloads did the Hip releases - i got 200-300 at home, I believe.

I have pushed 400 on a few occasions, but 150-200 seems to be the norm for torrents with lots of seeders.
I have heard real good things about http://www.bitsoup.org. Now I would never condone nor participate in the download of illegal torents, so let's just say I heard it from a friend of a friend...know what I mean, nudge nudge.
