chris,
IMO, you have unceremoniously been passed the Hip Bootleggers torch from Rory and continue to lead us bravely into new Hip bottleg territories....

Three cheers (er,, or pistols eh?) for our leader!

Hip, Hip...Hoorahy (sorry, the pun was too easy to score)

Chris, you are the balls in my opinion!

Ha Ha Ha... Thanks Scotty!

I think that if any Hipbaser examines our avatars, they'll have a clear understanding of why I'm doing more, and he's doing less as of late.

That is majorly impressive Chris. Excellent work. You're hardcore. :thumb: Extra points for humourous avatar comparison.

Today I received an inquiry from one of them about The Hip's taping policy... so I took the opportunity to ask the band what their policy is. Below is the transcript of the emails exchanged:

The Hip wrote:Hi Chris;

Thanks for your message.

We have thought about that, but figured we best leave it as an "underground" endeavour amongst fans. Pretty much everyone who is interested in recording already knows that we not only allow audio and video taping, but encourage it!

Where we do take an active role, is informing promoters and venues of our policies, and to allow - without prejudice - any and all gear that fans want to bring into the venue(s) with them. This is where commonly we run into problems, in that some venues are hesitant to allow this, without claiming some kind of remuneration. It gets a bit more complicated when we play festivals, etc.. with other bands on the bill, as they have their own policies and record company issues. Under normal circumstances, fans usually have no problems.

We have - as you may already know - released a few shows that we multi-tracked and remastered (www.livedownloads.com/tthip <http://www.livedownloads.com/tthip> ) from this past fall Canadian tour. I hope you take the chance to have a listen. They turned out rather nicely!

Keep up the recording and trading - and thanks for your support.

Subject: The band's stance on fan recordings and trading

Hello,

I was wondering if the band has considered publicizing an “Official” policy on fan recordings? There are a number of great fans, myself included, who live for live recordings of The Hip and spend countless hours editing, mixing, and sharing our recordings with other fans; and “policing” online outlets to ensure that these recordings are never sold.

Your feedback is greatly (and eagerly) anticipated.

Best regards,

Chris
So any idea where that would leave us with still cameras and photography Chris? Of course you remember the fiasco I just recently went through with the Amphitheatre and them saying "Cameras are allowed for tonight's show but your camera is too professional."

This is a major problem because you don't always have a place to turn to if you can't bring your camera in. Have the Hip ever published anything on this subject? Is this left to the discression of the facilty? the promoter?

Thoughts?

Eldorado, let me say this. . . I am aware of what you are saying and I am working on some type of solution. Whether it flies we'll see, but I have this cool idea and I have shared it . . .

I've had to sneak cameras into shows while being frisked...henhouse tour at the Gardens I nearly got busted...nice camera too, so I was stressing...

Okay, so I'll post here...

I've been bidding on vids on Ebay, not knowing this forum was here - but honestly, not taking the time to find it...some guy messages me through ebay to tell me that I shouldn't be paying for the stuff.

I had a bunch of "bootlegs" (Fandom Paradise, ages ago, Queen & John), but an ex figured he deserved them a little more than I, so I need to replenish.

I ran a search here to see what I could see (lmao) and found a bunch of links...well, I have a pos system. I am desperately searching for just about ANY concert dvd (or vhs cuz I can transfer). But I can't download and burn them myself. I don't have anything to trade (unless you're a scrapbooker...lmao), and apparently money is no good here....

Any tips would be definitely appreciated...although I think I am about to win one auction right now so I'll be stuck with that.....

Sorry for the thread hijack....

Hello Andrea,

There are loads of fans here who routinely offer B&Ps to new traders or those without anything to trade. Start a new thread asking for help, and detailing your situation as you did here, and I'm sure that you'll be off an running in no time.

If/when you are able to download and/or burn your own shows, check out http://tracker.hipfans.com

Have fun!

Did you ever get this or hear back from them?

I did, and it turned out to be just one snippet from 1989 that was available on their website; when The Hip were in Calgary filming the video for NOIS. I've got about 6 DVDs worth of goodies that will be compiled into future Grab Bag DVDs, and 3 or 4 more shows to edit - I just need to find some time to get them done.
