Could someone please help me with DVD burning. I have tried 2 different DVD burners and 3 different burning software. No matter what I try they will not play on my home DVD player. They do play on the PC. My home DVD player is suppose to play all types of DVDs. Also my PC has the correct specs for the DVD burner I am using. Do I need to convert the downloaded files before I can burn them to a DVD? What software should I use to burn them? When I try to use Nero it tells me that the files do not fit on one DVD. Any help you can give is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The problem may be that your player doesn't support the media (DVD-, DVD+, DVD-RW, etc.) that you're using.

From an online source:
Not all DVD players are created equal, and not all DVD blanks are either.
You have to be sure that DVD+ media will work in your DVD player.

Visit these websites...

...to look up your DVD player and see what works well.
Good luck!

By the way, I've also gotten that "files won't fit" message when trying to burn a few even when there's no discernible reason why they shouldn't..anyone know what's up with that?

You've probably alreadyt tried these suggestions, but how about "Nero Express" vs "Nero Burning ROM"?

Visit the burner maker's site and update your drivers and go to the Nero site & check for any updates they might have.

A slower write-speed might work, too.

Ottawa dvd 1 had issues with it for a lot of people on here. Check the Ottawa thread for the latest on this dvd release. Last I heard we would hear something last week about a re-release, but nothing that I know of yet.

The Ottawa part 1 DVD was re-released last week, and the one circulating on the Hip Tracker right now is the current one which should work.

Dave, have you burned any successful DVDs before? (Hip/non Hip?)

SRB, No I have not burned a DVD before. I have tried 2 diffrent burners and 3 different programs. Obviouly I am doing somethin wrong.

Do use all file downloaded to burn a DVD? I am dropping the whole VIDEO_TS folder and dropping it into the burning software. It seems to burn okay and will play on the PC but when I put it in my home DVD player it doesn't play. It is suppose to play all types of DVDs.

I remember another member having a similar problem in the past. What she was doing, was burning the files as a "Data" file which burns the folder structure onto a blank DVD. What she needed to do was to burn an "Image" to the DVD, which would then play on her settop DVD player. Do you have Nero Burning ROM installed?

The directory structure of the DVD should look like this: Image

I renamed the disc and text file, but that is personal preference. As well, I added an empty "AUDIO_TS" folder; some DVD players require this, so it is a good habit to add it all the time.

Chris, that is how my file looks with the exception of the changes you made.

I'm wondering if my lap top is powerful enough to burn DVDs. It says

Intel (R) Pentium(R) M
processor 1600Mhz
591mHz
768 MB of RAM

The DVD burner says it needs

800Mhz Pentium III processor
256MB RAM

I've been assuming that the 1600Mhz correspomse with the 800Mhz but am I wrong and the 591 Mhz correspondes with the 800Mhz meaning the processor isn't powerful enough?

Do the DVDs you've burned play on other computers?

Chris, I'm not sure if they play in other PCs. I don't have another one to try it in.
