Hip Tracker Suggestion

I got to thinking this on the way home from work yesterday and thought I'd put it to you guys and Chris.

I have always loved making mixed tapes and now mixed discs, both for myself and for others. I even remember back in the day, my first tape recorder was a crappy little Radio Shack thing that played and recorded but had no radio. I would take that and put it right up to the speakers of my parents big console stereo (that had a radio and 8-track player) and record songs off the radio and make my mixed tapes that way. There is even a site, http://www.artofthemix.org/index.asp that is dedicated to mixed tapes/discs.

Anyways, on my way home from work I got to thinking that there are probably plenty of people here who are also fans of mixed tapes/discs, and I'd sure like to hear someone else's idea of a good mix. Now with Bit Torrents, it's realistic to actually download someone's mix and burn it for myself.

So the suggestion is, is there a way to create a new section on the Hip Tracker and dedicate it to trading fan mixes? I don't mean Hip mixes, but everything else. If this isn't doable, perhaps a whole new tracker could be set up dedicated to this and linked from the tracker?

Anyone interested in this sort of thing?

the problem is that you are downloading/sharing copyrighted material. unless you were trading mixes of live shows of band that allow taping.

Yeah I weighed that into it. I don't see it as any different as me making a mixed disc and mailing it to you...that is legal, right? It's my music that I have bought. The only difference is how it's delivered. With file sharing what it is today, almost all music is readily available anyways, whether we trade mixed discs or not.

Hmmm, what if we used a different method of delivery, such as good old fashion snail mail? Although I can guarantee that will kill this idea with the work that is involved.

Did you download the Hip videos Chris put on the tracker? That is copyright material...no?

I don't know, I have always assumed it was. Perhaps that's because I don't ever recall anyone getting sued for giving away a mixed cassette tape in all my years of cassette taping.

It's actually not legal, but the RIAA and CRIA never saw it as big of an issue as they do with downloading.

Hell, in the US it isn't even legal to make yourself a copy for personal use.
