As the topic of the Detroit DVD has been discussed to death, and I've gotten tired of the jabs and jokes; I decided to simply put out a single angle version.

Here are clips from all 4 versions. Have a watch, and vote on which angle you want to see.

I have a separate audio source that I'll mix in, so don't judge based on sound.

I'll run this poll until December 10.

Save the links to your hard drive. They are 11mB divx.avi clips.

Angle 1
-Best quality picture, the monopod gets hit a few times resulting in some camera shake.

Angle 2
-Steady shot, more wide angles, lower quality picture, same location as Angle 1

Angle 3
-Steady shot, closer zooms, lower quality picture, shot from 25 feet to the left of Angle 1

Angle 4
-From side stage, in the "pit", arms in the way at many points, really gives the being there feel

Thanks for the choices Chris. I went with Angle 1 because it had better picture and focusing. The camera operator also focused on Gord during Poets which I feel is important because Gord can be really animated when he sings it.

Angle 2 - in and out of focus too much and poor image quality.

Angle 3 - Not bad but as you mention poorer image quality.

Angle 4 - I like the "being there" concept but too many arms in the way and very jerky camera panning and the recorder focused on Gord S and Rob B too much during it. As well, not seeing Gord front on the viewer would miss a lot of the experience that is THE HIP!

I know I'm basing a lot on just these short clips but that's how I saw it.

I voted for Angle 1 for all the reasons Highlander listed. Angle 4 would be my second choice (based on picture quality), but I've already seen the show from that perspective; I was about 6 or 8 seats to the left and back a row from the shooter. :)

Do whatever you feel is best, Chris; you've got a great talent for this stuff.

I think your hands and camera make a few appearances on the video from angle 4.

So far it's unanimous...

Angle 1 gets my vote as well... :thumb:

Although there's something to be said for the classic single non-zooming shot shown in Angle 2 when it comes to reliving the actual concert experience...

Just on the basis of this one track, I can't even begin to fathom how much work it must be/have been to try and choreograph these four views into one multi-shot DVD...kudos to Chris for even contemplating it!

From the votes so far, it seems clear which one the people prefer...now which one do you prefer Chris?

You're right, it would be; and maybe one day it'll see the light of day. But for now, this is it.

As mentioned in another thread that we won't mention, I'll have the multi angle version done in early 2010.

I think I'll take that in its literal sense and check back daily till then and starting (took me 6 tries to spell starting correctly) in mid to late june of 2006 I will be posting a new thread daily asking if it's done yet.

Ya know...it's ponderous that after all the questions like "what's taking so long" and "when will it be done" and "why is some later show on the tracker but Detroit's still not there" that only seventeen people have bothered to vote and only seven of those chose to comment.

I didn't review all the previous threads, but it seems like those of us who did comment have never complained or questioned the time-frame.

This is ponderous man, reeeally ponderous...

I voted for angle four, It has more of the concert feel, if there is such a thing. Great camera work I think whatever you will choose it will make Hip fans happy

I wasn't even aware we were waiting for the Detroit DVD... but since it seems that we are, I'd go with Angle 1... seems like a pretty safe bet...

I gotta throw another shout out to you guys, the DVD/Torrent/Bootleg ambassadors of the hipbase and hipfans.com... just watched the Toronto DVD, and damn, holy damn... you guys are great... it doesn't go un-noticed... you deserve some cup-cakes or something...

Ahh this sucks Chris! I really like ALL FOUR! They each have their own uniqueness!

I voted for Angle 3 simply because I think it has the best of both worlds (from the clip anyways!)

But I think I am with SRB - you should pick based on what you feel is the best one since I imagine you have watched all 4.
