A tip of the hat to BIG A for an outstanding dvd. great camera work and well packaged. this gives Chris competition for the "GORDIE" as being the best made dvd concert film of the hip this year. both are well done.

If I ever get a spare moment, I'll get the 4 camera + DAT audio "Live At The Fox in Detroit" DVD complete. There's no chance I'm losing out on my GORDIE!
But you're right, the Portland DVD is great.
(Speaking of DVD's... I just burned a new DVD of The Hip at Somerville in Boston on July 27, 2002. This is a previously uncirculated version recorded by "Locked".)

I have a version of that show {boston} and its up there as far as quality goes. i'm not sure if there is a mention of who made that one.
i'm hoping to get the rochester dvd rolling. the guy that sat in front of me in the 2nd row had a great line for filming. his battery went out with about 6 songs to go. he's going to be sending it to me next week.
hopefully another show will pop up and i can splice in the missing songs.
last but not least............that detroit show sounds pretty wild. does the GORDIE cover a calendar year or a full tour??? if its the calendar year you can hold out till january 1st and go for back to back.

RE: DVD's
I don't have a dvd burner yet. I have a laptop with only a 40GB hard drive. My computer budget is pretty much on hold until 2005. Is there anyway to burn these dvd shows onto CD merely as a storage method until I get a DVD burner? I have no intention of trading/distributing them if this degrades the process. I'm just a guy who has the Portland dvd on my drive and would love the Wasaga dvd as well. But I'm finding it hard to store all of these audio shows and dvd's on my drive to keep sharing through torrents. I'm finding it hard to even go offline to burn my audio shows! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks gang.

I don't see why you couldn't copy the files to CD-Rs for storage and then re-copy onto a larger hard-drive (into the appropriate folder) later to burn them. It may take several CD-Rs to hold the files from one DVD, but if storage is your purpose and you realize that you won't be able to watch them while their "in storage", it's probably your most economic alternative. Just make sure you label the CD-Rs appropriately with original DVD name and Part I, Prt II, etc.PurposelessPlay wrote:RE: DVD's...Is there anyway to burn these dvd shows onto CD merely as a storage method until I get a DVD burner?
I know you said your budgets's blown, but CompUSA (and stores like it) usually have sales on 80 GB external dives (USB connection) for $100 or less. I bought a 120 GB external for $100 when I got close to maxing out my 160 GB internal drive. I have waaaay to much crap on my hard drive.

Thanks Scottitude.
Well let me put it this way. I have the budget. I just need the authorization.
I just bought this new laptop at tht end of the summer and now just bought a wireless router and card for my older laptop and a spindle of quality CDs. I didn't put the hold on the budget. The WIFE did. haha
I'll look into the external drive though....in 2005
Thanks for the suggestion.

True Chris. But that seems so 1998. Kidding. OK then, my next question. Is there a brand or type of dvd I should buy? Is there a consensus on the best brand(s) and type(s)?Another easy fix for people without burners is B&P's...

I've found that each trader has their own favourites. Most, if not all traders will stay away from no-name/generic DVDs. I've had great success with Fuji & Ridata; bad luck with Maxell & Memorex.PurposelessPlay wrote:True Chris. But that seems so 1998. Kidding. OK then, my next question. And life without a DVD burner seems so... last year.

I know eh! Unfortuantely I made my laptop purchase before I discovered the joys of torrents. I honestly thought I had no need for a dvd burner. Any audio shows I got I could burn to CD and never have to worry about drive space. I just got up to speed recently about the joys of DVD when I downloaded the Netherlands dvd on your site Chris. I honestly thought I could just watch it on my computer and be happy. Honestly I did! Now I'm hooked. So now I have Portland on my drive as well and I'm hooked! I've since made arrangements to get some Hip dvds for myself (Thanks Peter!) But he doesnt have Portland or Wasaga. Ive seen how good Portland is and Ive heard great things about your Wasaga show Chris.
So I'm looking for anyone who is willing to B&P one or both of those shows. Let me know. Thanks in advance.

This goes for everyone out there, if you want B&P just ask, I will be glad to help.
I make these for fans everywhere, please distribute to anyone that asks for a copy. All I ask is that no money is ever charged over the cost of a Blank & Postage.
Cheers...

Understood biga. I have done B&P's before (1998 :p) both giving and receiving and would never profit or knowingly help someone else profit on a bands hard work.
biga you said to email you. Your profile email doesnt seem to exist. I tried to find an email addy on your homepage and can't. Did you want me to IM you here? Or perhaps you can email me or add me to MSN messenger: soharddoneby@hotmail.com

It's good to know I'm not the only one in that boat! I love mine dearly and wouldn't trade her for anything. I'm actually grateful that she keeps me grounded with gentle reminders that it's okay to have less than ten blanks and use them all up before I buy another spindle. Left to my own, I would stock enough blanks, inkjet cartridges, and assorted paper-stock to open my own office supply store!PurposelessPlay wrote:I didn't put the hold on the budget. The WIFE did...
