I have tickets to the 2004-09-18 - Detroit & 2004-09-19 - Cleveland shows, and plan on videotaping them. I will be making these recordings available on DVD, just like my Wasaga show.
However, both venues state that they do not allow any recording devices. Has anyone been to these venues before, and can verify if taping will be allowed? I know that the policy is usually set by the band, and as such I have emailed The Hip for confirmation.
Furthermore, if any Hipbasers live in the viscinity of these venues, could you stop in and check it out? Get a contact name, number, etc.
Last tour at the Odeon there was audio and video taping.
Sorry no contact name for you.
There was at least one video camera I saw and he was set up at his usual position next to the sound board.

If you get to Detroit early enough, you and I can go down to The Fox early. We can try see if we can get permission directly from someone in The Hip road crew and then try to negotiate something with the management and security. I have never seen any cameras in there. Maybe we can convince them to give us a break.
I emailed two addresses at the Fox Theater (Olympia Entertainment) last week generally asking about venue policy vs. artist preferences for "taper-friendly" shows, but both were returned; one "didn't exist", the other was "full", so it's unlikely that anyone will get a response to an email contact.
I called Olympia Entertainment this morning and was informed that while the venue does have a published "no camera / taping" ploicy, enforcement is determined by the position of the promoter, in this case, Clear Channel.
The Fox Theater ushers and security persons will follow whatever instructions are given by the promoter and the Clear Channel details of record for this show stipulate no cameras or recording devices. Unless you can get in touch with someone at Clear Channel or get a special dispensation from das Hips that will fly with Olympia Management, it may be difficult to pull it off.
Hugh23's idea is probably the best. Let me know if you need any other local info or support.
Good luck...

Hey Scottitude... Thanks for the info. I will be down there early, and will definitely take Hugh up on his idea. I have also contacted another long-time taper so hopefully we'll get this worked out.
I was wondering about something.
If alot of the tour dates are sponsored by CC, and if the rumors are true that The Hip will be releasing the shows for sale.
Isn't CC the ones that release "shows on demand"?
I wonder if that will be putting a damper on recordings?

I video taped some of the Concert at the Oden on the IVL Tour, I just walked in with a 8MM CamCorder...they didn't say a word. Only got a few of the songs and the sound isn't great but I guess it's better then nothing.
