Call me Billy, my mom calls me William.

Come on 500 minidvs. I don't care if you don't watch them the rest of us might like to. What good do they do in your box. Suppose your house burns down and they are all lost. Since you didn't share them then what.

You told bauer why you wouldn't trade?? Two years ago you said you would. You told him you only trade with other tapers. He told you he taped the Calgary shows and the Regina shows. Did you not believe him. Why would you not part with one of the Regina shows you taped? He only asked for one and was willing to send you a copy of his show. He never asked for the master. You are now hesitant. What was your excuse over the last two years?

Hey mark bauer tells me you never met at the shows so how could the multimix have happened. He met some other good guys. Apparently Matt was going to let him plug in his minidisc to his dat recorder only bauer didn't have the right cables with him. Now Matt is a freindly taper. TLB supplied some food and Matt offered up some beer while waiting in line. These sound like good guys.

I go to what ever shows I can and if I tape it is out there. Being a student I don't get to a lot of shows, and being in Regina it is very hard to get out to more than one or two shows a tour. My bro goes to as many as possible. Having finished his education and now working means he has some disposable income.

Your too burned out to share your tapes. What a crock of shit. Maybe you are too selfish? If you are so burned can we expect your website in 2010? Or how about the bit torrent thing. Getting one of those going takes some time and effort of which you apparently have none. You won't do a torrent because of jerks like me? torrents are open to the good the bad and the ugly what difference does it make what I say. Your masters don't have to leave you house to do a torrent. This just shows how much of an anti-trader tou really are. Any excuse to keep the shows to yourself.

$25000 per tour. If you are that rich man spend some time at home ripping your tapes in between tours. They are like every two years right?

How about letting some of the people you've grown to trust get some of the tapes out. Not everyone is a thief.

Why do I speak for him? cause I'm the little bastard that speaks my mind.
Any of you that met my bro would know he isn't like this.

BTW he isn't too happy I'm spouting like this but this ain't the first time I've spewed, he's a big boy and can handle it. You don't want to "work" with him fine but don't do it cause of me. I'm an asshole. Ask around and you find out how much trading he has done over the years. He hasn't quit due to burn out. If you tape, share. You only have to share with someone who is willing to get the shows out there, that is one person. You just have to find the right one but isn't that what this forum is about?

thank the powers that be that the hip are going to offer up concert discs in the upcoming tour, he said with his fingers crossed.

Funny thing is I went to the shows with both Matt and TLB and we all travelled together. If I had known Jody mikes crapped out I would have gladly let him patched out of my deck. Jody obviously knew I was with Matt because he mentioned it to me in his e-mail to ask Matt for a copy of his tape or mine. Both Matt and myself haven't listened to our copies so prehaps our didn't come out either. Matt mentioned to me that the sound was particularly crappy. And the food, that food in the Calgary line was from all three of us. Some guy from the restaurant beside the venue wanted a spot reserved with us so he brought us beer and desserts (about $50 worth just so he we could keep a spot in line for him). We all suggested to give the desserts to your bro since it was a name we knew.

I didn't have a year off of touring since I followed Gord's whole tour and then Sam Roberts whole tour and then Joel Plaskett's whole tour and then The Dears whole tour and then Peter Elkas whole tour, etc. Well I hope you get my point I tape and go out and support a lot of Canadian music and the Hip are just a small (but major) part of my musical interests.

If my place burned down and I lost all my tapes I could care less because I don't live for the tapes. Its just a hobby and its not really worth getting into an argument over.

Unfortunately I only remember Jody contacting me from a reference through Peter Padjen. And I really do respect Jody for taping (especially video taping the shows). Just bad timing for Jody and I to trade I guess.

To make a torrent requires time and energy something I don't have. When you get a job and you no longer a student I hope you see this point
hence why others have gotten out of collecting all together. I've seen many good Hip traders drop off (Jay Salinger, Trevor Astrope, Rory Young, Peter Padjen).

You mentioned the following and to quote:

"I am very proud of the shows I've taped and am willing to share with who ever asks me for them. I usually try and throw in a couple of extra discs cause let's face it they are only a few cents each and the pleasure you get from the boots is priceless."

So what shows have you taped?

ok time for me to pipe in,

first off if anyone touches anyones mics I will kick their ass, be it my bro bill or mike fuckin tyson. I live to tape and tape to live. i would never condone this behavior.
second I believe we are all entitled to our opinions wrong or right. If you don't like it don't read or respond.
I guess bill got tired of me bringing this home. I do a lot of bitching at home where no one hears, I guess he did. It really bothers me when people can't be nice to each other. I don't expect anything but to be treated the way I treat others. In the future I will watch what I say around him. It is tough, we live one block from each other (he rents my old house) and we work in the same building. I'm a lab tech here at first nations university of canada, he is a summer student working upstairs. I live for music and my boots are like my kids since I don't have any yet.
I understand people are busy, I'm busy and I'm very protective of my free time as those of us that work have little of it but it is not like there are thousands of people emailing me for boots. I do burn 20-30 a week which I understand is alot but the thrill I get knowing how excited people are to get these shows makes it worth it. I met a girl outside the edmonton show who gave me a kiss on the cheek right in front of my wife when I told her I will try and get her a copy of that show. She saw me putting my minidisc and mics in the car and came running over. That is how excited I was to get home and give the shows a listen. When they were duds I really wanted to try and fix them. I enquired as to how this might be done. Some of you couldn't even be bothered to reply. I didn't expect much but some common courtesy. Maybe a reply like I don't know sorry. I've been totally ignored by some which makes me ask why we are here.

Mark I've been in contact with you many times since IVL. I am a taper and have been for years. I can't believe that in the last two years you couldn't be bothered to trade one show with me. If you don't want to talk with me than at least say so. I have no problem leaving people to themselves, ask TLB. If you don't want people to talk to ya then why not hide your name at the bottom of the homepage so that not everyone can see that you are checking the base three times a day. but you are still to busy to reply or burn boots. HMMM makes you wonder.

Thanks for the food, my wife was starving since I made her wait in line with me, we really appreciated it. It was TLB that brought it over to us and Matt offered up the beer when we walked past him in line. I didn't know it was also from you, thanks again the wife gets grumpy when she is hungry.

That is one hell of a hobby. You'll spend thousands of bucks following bands to watch them through a view finder only to not care what happens to the tapes?? You need to rethink that one. Maybe the tapes should go to some one who does care.

The shows I video taped in Regina were partially taped by bill. When the camera angle shifts ever so slightly is when I passed the camera over to him. He has also helped me tape countless other shows. It is my equipment so he doesn't take any credit. He is always the first to get a copy and trades with his friends. As there is a few years difference we hang in separate circles. He has copies of all my boots(240+) so incase something does happen at my house they are not lost forever.

I don't understand this comment mark

If neither of you listened to your copies how did Matt tell you the sound was particularly crappy? I stood beside Matt for the entire first show and I can tell you it sounded awesome during the show.

I thought Peter got out because he was in an accident not from burn out.

Matt complained to me that the sound from where you guys were standing was horrible and he was really pissed at the guys running the video camera talking during the whole show.

Anyways yes I do check Hipbase a lot, but I do that from work. All my equipment is at home st I only have a very limited amount of time to transfer stuff. When I go home I like to spend that time with my girlfriend and not with tapes and MiniDVs.

I'll decide when I'll trade or spread the torrents. Either it will be directly from me or someone I trust (like I did with the 2003 EdgeFest show).

Hey I said thanks for the food. There is that courtesy thing again. :thumb:

You sure are good at skirting the issues dude.
BTW I was actually planning to BitTorrent all six Hip shows I've been so far, but now I’m obviously hesitant to do so because of jerks like you.
I thought you were really busy. You talk in circles man. You only heard of me through a reference from Peter. Are you joking?? Quit the shit man. It is selfish shits like yourself that bring down humanity.

No one will give you a thing these days they would rather kill it or hoard it away. where's that leave you and me? It leaves you with a box of unwatched Hip and me wanting to watch em.

Sitting down for an evening of watching Hip Vids is about as good as it gets.

You may say what you talkin about willis?
I'm talkin The Hip!

I was never asking for your whole collection, you honestly don't have 20 minutes to spend helping out a fellow hipbaser? Man you ARE busy.

Just curious as to what part of taping you like if not the product. Setting up a tripod with a camera is not filming dude. Or do you watch the whole show through the viewfinder. I remember seeing you at the IVL tour up front getting different angles and stuff, Why even put a tape in the recorder if you don't care? Why not record over the tape over and over? At least that way you don't have a box full of shit you don't care about.[/quote]

OK Jody and William here's my offer, since you've taped shows yourself. I'll send four shows from my collection for the four shows you taped. A couple specific things about how I trade and why I don't trade often (because most people can't meet my needs).

(1) I can only provide copies of my tapes on MiniDV, Digital8, Hi8 or 8mm tape. If you pick a digital format such as MiniDV or Digital8 you will get an exact clone of the master. I am able to clone tapes like this because I have multiple cameras and I connect them with a firewire cable. This means you will get the best quality possible.

(2) I also require the same thing in return. I simply do not want generated video anymore (even 2nd gen video on VHS is crap to me).

I don't have a VHS VCR anymore. I don't have a cassette deck anymore.
I don't deal with MP3s. I don't have a Minidisc. Making a DVD is simply too time consuming for me.

This offer is open to all TAPERS at all times.

i hear what your're saying,
this is getting worse and worse,

kudos to those who tape the shows, i'm very appreciative of the 5-10 or so boots i have collected over the last couple of years, as i have no knowledge/means of how to tape.

i was kinda hoping to maybe get a boot from the last toronto show, but this kinda stuff makes me not even want to ask

Actually back in 1993 the Hip never allowed taping. They only allowed it starting in the Fall of 1998. Yeah but that was the sneaker throwing incident. It was also game 7 of the Detroit - Toronto series hence you can probably hear my friend telling me the score during the tape. Unfortunately the tape actually didn't turn out that great since my mikes were kinda broken.
