In 2004 The Hip released 3 live shows. This was under the title of "Live Series" Volume 1,2,and3. Now they have 3 shows for sale under the series name "From the Vault." Does anyone know why they they didn't continue with the series from 2004? Also, the early ones can't be bought anymore. Is that going to be the way the new ones are. Available for a limited time only? Just wondering if anyone knew the deal on these series

It looks like the first 3 are still available.
And whatever else the Hip Camp is thinking about live shows - I really can't figure them out. It is a bunch of start. Stop. Start. Stop. With every idea over the past 9 years (theHipClub, Hyper CD's, Custom Designed shirts/posters and the 2 live series you stated) it seems they start off with an amazing idea - and then it falls by the wayside.
Although in these forums, some where, we were told more Live From The Vault's were coming. We'll see.

i also seen a vol. 4 on a different site. i know someone could easily call the show they had as vol. 4 but it is an excellent recording. It fooled me until i found out that there is no official "From the Vault Vol. 4" released.......yet. It doesn't make sense why they wouldnt sell say the best of the 4 shows at Artpark or the best of that week in Toronto. no pun....ah okay slightly intended. The Allman Brothers spit out a copy of there shows less than a half hour after the show ends. The Black Crowes, Gov't Mule all do it. With such a strong fanbase as The Hip have it couldnt help but be a success. every show is an event. They usually have video cameras for the screens on the side of the stage so a video cant be all that much tougher to do. but i'd settle for audio...all shows....all tours. :rambo:

Volume 4 was available with a pre-order of WATS.

I can't agree more that these projects are always so promising when they start up, only to quickly be forgotten (by everyone except the fans). In 2004 we were told there were going to be more shows through livedownloads. In 2006 we were told the Live 10 series was "taking a break" after 4 releases but definitely be back. We've been told the same about the "Live from the Vault" series, but considering the track record, it won't surprise me if nothing else is released. Vol. 4 was supposed to be available for digital download after WATS was released, and that was roughly 6 months ago.

I understand releasing live shows is not a priority for the band, but it really is disappointing to the hard-core fans who are continuously given a taste, promised more, then left wondering for 2 years at a time as to what happened.

Heck I still check thehip.com's Gift Shop almost daily to see if the next round is up. :(

If I was a cynic, I'd say it appears as if the band's marketing team dreams up some new gimic to help promote each album (every 2 years), then abandons the idea as soon as the tour wraps up. But I'm not a cynic, so I look forward to dozens of official live downloads over the years ahead.

Yes Dana this kid is wearing me out. i haven't lost my love for the band but man time is just not around anymore. The days of being single and doing anything i wanted seem like a long time ago. now i change diapers and lose my temper alot. Good Times.....

BUT i am trying a comeback. {as i write that last line i am called upstairs to tuck in the kids. Maybe i'll start the comeback tomorrow :) "
