Welcome to the base! But, I didn't mean The Hip...I meant other bands at the same venue, IE: The Black Crowes as someone else mentioned.Stayhip wrote:I was at a show once where they did 3 encores!!! I truley beleive it all depends on the crowd!

as long as the show is a go... planning to leave the Falls just after 2pm on Friday
Anyone suggest a decent bar to stop for supper ( pizza and wings kinda place)
We are heading down through rte 219 ( initially i'm thinking maybe stop in Ellicotville) since I'm familiar with it.
but any suggestion would be welcomed from those who may know better
thanks

I am planning on stopping at the Ellicotville Brew Pub for some burgers with the wife. Been in the area a hundred times but never really hung out there. Mostly on the slopes. I am leaving BUF around 430 and plan to be there by 530 and out by 630. Its about half hour ride from Ellicotville to the Casino. Can have some beers if your intrested. Let me know.

Nobody did a live setlist update? Whoops, sorry about that. I guess I could have.
Well, interesting show...ended at 9:40. It was only one set. They did the acoustic set about 8 or 9 songs in.
I won't attempt the setlist here, but the main highlight again for me was Looking for a place to happen. Best line of the night for me was at the end of the Meridian rant when Gord said, "Okay, I'd better get back or else these guys will forget what song they're playing".
Acoustic Music at Work was cool.
I took lots of pictures, I'll post them later.
Didn't win big at the casino so I guess I'm heading back to reality on Monday.
See you in the 'cuse tomorrow.

Just got back from the show -- my thoughts to follow -- but here's the set list --
1. Love is a First
2. Courage
3. Yer Not The Ocean
4. ABAC
5. Fireworks
6. Morning Moon
7. Looking for a Place to Happen
8. My Music @ Work - A
9. Last Recluse - A
10. Scared - A
11. Lonely End of the Rink
12. Long Time Running
13. 100th Meridian
14. Coffee Girl
15. Fully Completely
16. Little Bones
17. Family Band
18. NOIS
Hands down one of the more different venues I've been to. It was reminiscent of a conference room -- with the chairs bolted together. Floor was level -- a lot of looking at the back of people's heads -- but what can you do. Very low-key crowd that didn't really start getting into it until 100th Meridian. Gord left the stage twice -- first during the acoustic version of The Last Recluse -- walking out to the middle of the crowd and asking "Who are you?" The second instance was during 100th Meridian -- where he went into the first row and carried on a conversation with most of the people up there. Highlights of that included him taking a picture with one of the first people he talked to -- then talking about someone else who was wearing a Polar fleece. Gord said something to the effect of -- "The polar fleece -- it always seems like a good idea -- then it gets too f-ing hot."
Another Gord-ism from the rant -- golf is a game that keeps white middle-class males under oppression. This extended solo was the highlight of the show -- with Gord remarking that he better get back on stage before the rest of the band forgot what song they were playing.
Aside from that -- an ok show. I have a feeling that many of the folks in the crowd had no idea who The Hip were and were there because they were comped tickets from the casino. Hopefully some of them came away from the show wanting to see more.
Hoping for a more energetic crowd and show tomorrow night in Syracuse -- but either way -- a night with The Hip is better than a night without them.

Interesting show, interesting crowd, indeed. To piggy-back off of the comment made that 1/2 the people there didn't know who they were, I can give a great example. My hubby and I had 23rd row. I was bummed, I'm short, and the rows were very spread out! Well.. we saw two Grandma's walk out during Fireworks (one of my absolutely faves!) - so I ran out after them, asked them if they were leaving for the night, and grabbed their ticket stubs. So, we got up to the 6th row, where we had a great view! Then, the guy next to me leans over and asks, "Is this REM?" I'm like... uh, no.
100th Meridian rant was DEFINITELY a highlight - loved the polar fleece bit - and the best man one, too. Ha! Nice to hear Looking for a Place to Happen again, but other than that.. it was a pretty basic show. I did love, however, the video screens that allowed you to really see Gord's facial expressions. That was great. All in all, good show. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Big thanks to the old ladies that gave us the better seats. I'm sure they are on the base somewhere....
Anyway, I was worried we were getting a single set show when I heard about the Vegas show, when the band came on pretty early (and to a less than full house at the time) and really ripped through the first four songs. When the acoustic chairs came out, it was a forgone conclusion.
Crowd was interesting. Lots of comped seats and natives in the front ten rows. The energy in the back seemed better, but I'm not going to pass up a 15 row upgrade.
Given that tomorrow will be my last show for a while, I'm hoping for Thompson Girl and Throwing Off Glass, as those are two "regular rotation" songs this tour that I have never heard before. Goodnight!

so they only played 18 songs tonight?
every other show they played 25. did they do accoustic? I was goign to go but i could not find any tickets. someone called me from ebay with one ticket at 530 for 60 bucks but that was to close to the show for me to make it in good fashion from buffalo. and if they only played 18 songs i would be pissed and i am glad i did not go and instead i am going to syracuse tomorrow with 9 rows from the stage, but i paid 140 for 2, but thats not to bad. but if they only play 18 tomorrow that would be awful, i have seen them 5 times this tour and they have been amazing and everytime 25 songs, so thye better in syracuse. unless the short list was due to the band being still sick. so is it true they only played 18 for some reason and does anyone thing they will do the same tomorrow? thanks everyone

I think it was mentioned elsewhere that shows in Casinos tend to be shorter, so patrons can hit the slots earlier or some BS like that.Jrock1818 wrote:so they only played 18 songs tonight?

that is pretty crappy that half the people did not know who they where, and that the hotel just compd people, and that old women went to the show and that no one was really into it. that annoys me, I realy wanted to go but it was sold out to people who did not care, why would the hip even go to a place like that,. I am just kind annoyed cause I was suppose to see them in Denver hat that got cancelled and then I could not see them when i got home either. Hopefuly they will make it up for me in syracuse tomorrow where i still had to pay 140 to go cause that was sold out, so no 18 song night again. and people better be into it like a real hip show
