Despite some peoples claims to the contrary, most of the things I do around here are done for benevolent reasons.Hairbird wrote:Thanks very much Chris. Enjoy the show!
I need another angle in order to put out a DVD.

They probably aren't, but its tough for me. I can't quite grasp the ratio thing. I'll figure it out sooner or later.Zenith wrote:Sweet! Thanks for that, Chris.![]()
Seriously, torrents and trackers are really not that hard.TG wrote: I vote for Web download, because the Tracker is like trying to do an Astrophysics test written in Navajo, and in #1 font size, which is a physical impossibility.
(or maybe I am just an idiot, there is always that possibility)
P.S.
Thanks, Chris(and all those who contribute)from all of us Hip fans, we probably don't say thank you nearly enough.

Your ratio = the amount of data you upload divided by the amount of data you download. The goal is a ratio of 1.00 or higher.
For example:
A) You download 5 Gigs of data and only upload 1 Gig. (1 Gig / 5 Gigs = 0.20) Your ratio is 0.20 which sucks because you are taking 5 times more than you are giving.
B) You download 1 Gig of data and upload 5 Gigs. (5 Gigs / 1 Gig = 5.00) Your ratio is 5.00 which is terrific because you are giving 5 times more than you are taking.
Does that help?

I see what is going on. I just live North of northern alberta so I will probably never have that much to contribute, and I don't want to seem like I am leeching of others to feed my Hip addiction. The Hip don't come to Grimshaw, AB very often, plus I am technologically handicapped.chris wrote:Your ratio = the amount of data you upload divided by the amount of data you download. You don't have to offer up anything new necessarily. If you download a show, like the Danforth one for example, you can just keep seeding once you have finished downloading, and other people can download it from you, in theory, infinitely. Keep this going long enough, and you will easily have a 1.00+ ratio. Does that make sense?TG wrote:I see what is going on. The ratios are there to keep torrents alive, not punish people for not having new material to contribute. If I post a show, I seed it just until there is one more seeder. At that point that seeder takes over until s/he gets to at least 1.0. And then others take over, doing the same thing. And so on, and so on.Zenith wrote:You don't have to offer up anything new necessarily. As well, I mark some shows as free leech meaning that the downloaded data is not counted - just what you upload is. So if a show marked as free leech is 1 Gig and you download it, your downloaded data count does not change. This was you get a show for "free" and have a chance to build your ratio as others download it from you.
