I have been paying attention to this site for quite some time but mostly as a spectator. So I finally jumped in, you can call me fish. I am in Rochester N.Y.and I will go out on a limb and say that I am the biggest fan in this area. I have seen the Hip 5 or 6 times and really can't get enough. I will be at the Harro East show and then a friend an I will be making the roadie down to Lancaster in April. So there I'm in and the water is fine.

favs
Road Apples
Day for night

not so much
phantom power

fav song
ahead by a century

never met the band would like to, any hints on how

note, interesting maybe not but here it is
have the hockey card

opinion, mine and maybe yours
From what I have read on here some of the Rochester shows have been the best the Hip have ever done.

Welcome!

That limb is rather shaky. There are some serious Hip fans in your neck of the woods.

Just find the tour bus parked out behind the venue immediately after a show and wait there. They'll eventually come out & board, and usually stop to greet any fans gathered there........

Well thanks for the welcome, have you met the band and are they receptive to the fans? I can't tell you why I could not get into phantom but I continue to listen anyway. I was at a show and the crowd really got into BOB C and it never did it to me I dont know why. But you see Yarning and Snarling really makes me get the shakes so I guess you can see the contrast.I have bought a few things off eBay I got that base ball hat they said was rare I dont know if it was but the thing cost me 40 bucks oh well its cool. I hate small talk see ya

The band is probably more receptive to fans than any you'll find, at this level of popularity. I've met and interacted with them all except Downie, who always seemed to be mobbed by throngs of autograph seekers evwhenever I had the chance to get close to him.

When I was in LA to see a show in the summer of 2002, I bumped into Bobby, on the street right outside the Whiskey-A-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip and we chatted for a good ten minutes. He was as genuine and approachable as any regular dude. Same goes for Sinclair, with whom I also had the pleasure of chatting for a spell on the campus of Ohio State University the afternoon before a gig. These guys are quite down-to-earth.

And I'm with you -- I'll take Yawning and Snarling over Bobcaygeon any day if the week. BobC is a great tune, but I'm much more of a sucker for a dark, brooding bass riff than your acoustic, ballad-type of air....

Phantom Power is like other Hip records for me in that the singles and apparent 'fan favorites' are the tunes I seem to like the least. For me, Poets, Fireworks, Bobcaygeon, Something On, and Save The Planet get trumped mightily by Vapour Trails, Membership, Chagrin Falls, Escape is at Hand, and Emperor Penguin.

Hi I'm QuizShowChampion. I'm going to go out on a limb and be extra friendly since you all seem like the friendly type, my real name's Nathan and I go to UBC. I started listening to the Hip about a year ago. A couple buddies and I bought my friend Hipeponymous for Christmas, but he'd already got it from a relative. I paid my buddies back and kept it. I fell in love and now own the entire discography.

Favourite albums:
Day For Night
Phantom Power

Not-So-Favourites:
The Tragically Hip EP. Too twangy for me.

Dark Horse album that surprised me after all of the negative reviews I'd heard:
Music At Work

Favourite Tune:
It varies from day to day, but the version of Nautical Disaster on the live album is amazing.

I've been to one show, Victoria on January 7th of this year.

P.S. This is my second account, I totally forgot about my first one and feel terrible about neglecting it so. I never posted, but lurked a little.

Welcome aboard! I know a few people that go to UBC, and it sounds like a solid time. Hope you stick around this time and post a bit more, fresh faces with fresh opinions always kick ass. :thumb:

Favourite Album: Day For Night or In Between Evolution

Song: It changes lots but Nautical Disaster is up there...Put It Off is insence aura goodness.

I would marry Gord Downie without question. I saw The Hip in November at two of their four Commodore dates in Vancouver. Absolutely amazing. Need to see them again as many times as possible.

DFN is a masterpiece, an absolute masterpiece. Steve-o, your niece has great taste in music. DFN and IBE are both terrific. Rob Baker said that The Stones, to him, will never have another 'Exile on Main St'. Well, The Hip will never have another 'Day For Night'.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. Welcome to one and all.

You're ridiculously lucky. I can't get into the Commodore for another four months.
