For me the technology has improved enough in the last four years that definitely has enabled me to listen to my live recordings quicker. This is why I created the torrent of all the shows for the mini club tour. I thought these would give the definitive "capture" of those shows. The Torrent technology is the best way to spread shows and this is why I made the 15 show torrent. This really didn't exist four years ago.

I simply don't trade one to one anymore because quality does matter to me and over the years I definitely received a lot of unlistenable / unwatchable recordings. And if I said I would trade at one time and simply never replied back to you in a timely manner I apologize. As Adrian said life goes on. I certainly have had my share of trades go down on the bad side but I didn't publically post anything derogatory or threating to those people. At the time I didn't owe you anything except my word and coming from a Leaf fan (me) that should mean nothing. If I had received tapes from you then I would have owed you something.

I don't think it should be about gettting the show out there for just the sake of it. Personally I have over 1000 Dead recordings and all of them sound killer. That is because that community was all about the hi-end gear. Same with other similar acts that the Dead spawned off - Phish, Dave Matthews, etc. If I heard a bad Dead recording I'd probably pitch in the garbage or delete it.

I record because I like music, especially the Hip's music. I record because I'm a gearhead and I love trying out new recording techniques.
I record because I've always had an interest in audio engineering.

Fortunately in the past couple of years I have met some people that shared the same ideals about recording live music like I do. The unfortunate part is that group is quite small and generally only record in Ontario and BC. That means that the middle part of Canada of the Hip tour does not get recorded again. I would wish that the Hip taping community would evolve into something like the Dead had, where getting the show out first was like a game.

The fortunate part is that those people became good friends which I enjoy going to shows with. To me in the end that is what its all about.

If you want a show that badly, very simply tape it yourself.

the shows I was trying to get from Mark I did tape myself I just wanted a different view ie his tapes and I was willing to send him copies of mine.

So relax, take a pill, smoke some pot, or what ever you do, just do it and QUIT WHINING!.

I posted here because Mark's Monster Torrent was a public example of how he does share... and I got a kick out of this thread back then, and now. It's great how passionate we can get over this band, their music, taping, trading, etc.

As BigA mentioned, Mark shares a lot with people he knows, who then in turn get the shows out to the fans.

And Dave has lots of friends, and we all know that he is a dick. He tells us all the time.

Oh no. Imagine the guy who is running hiptracker receiving emails. If you don't want people to ask then shut it down. Not everyone who asks is malicious, most people are just so excited that they found out the show even exists

I don't care how excited you get about a show, it doesn't give you the right to demand things of me. End of story.

I am well aware of the situation I put myself in by starting The Hip Tracker but that does not preclude me from having, and sharing, my opinion. And since I'm not a suck, I'm not going to shut it down. I'm also a dick; people tell me so all the time. Or am I an Asshole?

I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better if the hip cancelled taping at their shows

What would that accomplish? According to you, The Hip don't care about the tapes that fans make, so why would they change their taping policy?

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE HIP! you heard chris say it right here. Dude have you got it all WRONG! If it stops being about the music we are in trouble. Pride in YOUR own work. As far as I understand it the music belongs to the hip as does the music on any hip boot you've created. So this is about chris making the best hip video out there? be very careful how you answer this one. The boots have always been about the music not how good it sounds or how many angles or mics in the mix.

Can we drop this topic? Please be thankful for what makes it to the tracker. Tapers and those who author take a lot of time to make recording and we should all be thankful for what they do. They don't even have to share, but they do what they can. For god's sake there are well over a hundred shows on the tracker. Go download away.

I think you wish I was digging. You said it is not about The Hip. The only thing pathetic is how you are trying to cover up what you said. I didn't take anything out of context, that is what you said live up to it. You said you were worried about YOUR product. People don't give a shit about how well chris can put together a dvd or cd. They care about the MUSIC. When you claim it as your own it makes me wonder.

The point: If you say you are going to do something than do it even if takes an eternity to get around to it or just say I am not going to do it! Don't make excuses (life happens or i am busy or I had a baby or i need to do a 12 mic matrix with 20 camera angles(most people myself included don't care, If I want a pro shot vid I will but The Hip's video)). If something comes up at least be polite enough to let them know.

I NEVER said anyone owes me anything. I have always said if you don't want to share NO PROBLEM but don't tell me you are going to and then ignore all correspondence and make me out to be the ass for asking what happened.
