[quote]I totally agree, so when I asked politely and was told no problem only to be ignored later makes me a bad guy for asking in the first place? AGAIN IF YOU SAY YOU ARE GOING TO SHARE THAN SHARE, IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF SHAING THAN SAY SO, NO PROBLEM.{/quote]

Life happens, get over it!

I know I have lots of people asking for copies of shows when I am taping, I just tell them to watch the tracker. I sometimes will tape a show and will release it fairly quickly because it was a show that was special. Other shows take time because I have to fit them in between other things in my life. Again life happens and just because we said we will share it, does not mean it will be up the next day.

Mark, shares more than you will ever know. He is a great guy, and will go out of his way to help anyone. That last cross country torrent he released, took him 40 plus hours to do. Listen, adjust, listen, cut, tag repeat.

When someone tapes about 100 (or more) shows year, every year, finding time to transfer and share them is very difficult, especially when you have to work 40 hours a week as well. When you do finally get some downtime looking for a perticular tape may not be on the top of the "things to do" list.

I tape because I enjoy it, especially when I get to listen to it again later. I also enjoy sharing my recordings but I've been to 21 hip shows this year and I've shared maybe half of them, if that, it's hard to find time to get them all transfered, I have only listened to the ones I've shared as well, if I havn't had time to listen to my own recording and fix anything that needs to be fixed there is no way I feel comfortable handing them out to others.

why do i tape?

for myself and no one else. i do it so i know i have it and i don't have to rely on or hope someone else tapes it and shares it.i love listening to my recordings and i love giving them to people who i think would love to listen to them.

myself and a couple other of the tapers are in the process of learning how to edit dvds because we don't want to rely on chris to do it for this whole "community". hopefully more people will follow

do i share my recordings?

yep,not all of them and not too often but i do.
I HAVE A JOB!!!!
I HAVE SHIT TO DO!!!!

am i a dick?

all my friends tell me i am

of the 200 hip RECORDINGS you have do you have any idea how many were taped by mark? i'll take a guess and say more than a handful.

asking politely is fine but asking all the time(every week, everyother week/month) is annoying and having your "brother" come and threaten marks gear?wtf

i don't give a shit how AMAZING someone thought the show was,or that it was their birthday or whatever.people lie, people don't give a shit, thats life,
so live

sure its easy to make a cd/dvd now but don't assume everything someone tapes makes it that far into the process. i'm guessing you haven't taped 24bit or filmed hd? because it takes time.

i hope the tracker is actually making people think about taping shows themselves and not just sitting back and waiting, asking politely for the people who tape to share.the hip taping community is only a handful strong and 2 years ago even less, so imagine the amount of emails mark would have gotten back then.now we just direct them to hipfans.com and let chris deal with them business like.i am dick

theres a lot of shows where people don't ask us for a copy, and to me taping isn't a hassle its fun as hell and if i started not enjoying the process i would stop!

i'll be at 9 of the ontario shows this tour spending my free time and money doing what i like and i bet i see the same sorry faces doing the same,i understand some people can't afford mics/recorder or even tickets but some people can.it might sound like all us tapers are dicks ah yeah were all dicks.

theres others that don't tape that have helped a lot like corby, srb ,and all that donate to keep hipfans going. i don't expect everyone to tape every show and i don't expect to get anything from anybody either.it would just be cool to get a bigger better community going so we don't have to rely on mark and chris.

this topic came up in montreal when chris showed us some emails he has received and i told him to read this thread. that was it!

just remember when you ask for a show your asking someone to take
2 hrs of their day, after spending 10 hrs at work to track and torrent a show for you.

we do send shows for others to transfer.

it's tough to send video tapes to someone you don't know to transfer and edit
plus if they do a shitty job your names on it and no one likes their name on a shitty product.

Well said Dave!!!!! I agree with you whole heartly on the subject!

I fall into the "I can't afford gear to tape" category and I do rely on the tapers for quality recordings. I hope that you have put some perspective into those that don't tape the shows.

See you in Barrie!

I've got the Sony DCR-SR100 30Gb hard drive model. It's great for taping shows. Only bummer is that it does not have FireWire for streaming.

As someone who doesn't have much opportunity to help out with taping (not that I can afford the equipment anyway), I can only stress once again how much I appreciate all the hard work that all these guys go to.

If there's any way I can help, I will... I try to keep anything I've leeched available and seed all the time I'm online to give others opportunities to share what I have very generously had shared with me.

And hey... if the boys come over again and some people follow, I'm happy to lug some equipment around and point a mike/camera for the cause!

Thank you to everyone who puts in their time and effort to make these things available!

This has been said by others before but I am having a very hard time with people taking possession of the boots like it is their own product. Shitty product? come on, do you think the hip care if the boots sound good or not. If they did there would be no way in hell they would let us record. The hip did not mandate that we use the most expensive gear and software money can buy. We can tape with a shitty old cassette if we want. The idea is to grab a little piece of musical history. Some of my favourite boots sound shitty does this make it a bad product? I guess it is the old deadhead coming out in me. keep the boots free and available to the people whether they are good or bad. Get the boot out and let the community decide if they want them fixed, there may be people out there with extra time to do the fixing.

of the 200 hip RECORDINGS you have do you have any idea how many were taped by mark? i'll take a guess and say more than a handful.
More than a couple of handfuls probably.
asking politely is fine but asking all the time(every week, everyother week/month) is annoying and having your "brother" come and threaten marks gear?wtf
I hope you are not implying that I was asking Mark every week or every other week even, but to send out a PM once a month or every other month to a person that said they were willing to trade with me is wrong?

I didn't have my brother do anything he is definitely his own man. We are trying to make it out to an Ontario gig in January or you can try and come out to the prairies and hopefully I can introduce him to you bornalion. We can take you and your brother out for a beer.

all my friends tell me i am
I am surprized you even have any friends. I certainly wouldn't call some dick a friend especially one who knows he is and won't do anything about it.

Since I too am a taper I would love to see more people in the community. 2 years ago I was also a taper and I did get a few emails, it takes a second to reply.
theres a lot of shows where people don't ask us for a copy
This seems to be at the heart of the melt er matter. I am bothered by the us part. It seems like there is two groups here. The few tapers (mostly Ontario tapers with a couple of BC tapers in there) and the rest of the community. The couple of tapers seem to trade with each other no problem but when someone outside their club asks for something we are assholes. I don't care about a 6 person matrix mix or 6 angle video (although it is extremely well done) not all boots need to look like they were professionally made. Get the music out there man. If we waited for every boot to be "fixed" there would be a 10 year wait.
this topic came up in montreal when chris showed us some emails he has received and i told him to read this thread. that was it!
Oh no. Imagine the guy who is running hiptracker receiving emails. If you don't want people to ask then shut it down. Not everyone who asks is malicious, most people are just so excited that they found out the show even exists

bigA - Are you as good as your word? I thought so. So why would you say life happens, get over it. If you say you are going to do something don't you do it? Even if it takes a year? Or do you just say ah life happens. I NEVER asked for the boots from Mark the next day! I once asked a guy for a Dead show I was at. He said very politely that he was very busy and would post it on etree we he got the chance. He was up front and said it would probably be 6-8 months. I figured it wasn't going to happen, Well guess what happend 5 months later. I got an email from him and the show was posted. The point - if you say you are going to trade, than trade, don't claim life happens if you decide to not trade later. I too have a job and a brand new baby girl but I still seem to find a little time to do what I enjoy.

I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better if the hip cancelled taping at their shows

This is why I do not come these sites that often, too much of this whining going on, new rule here, NO WHINING!!

I tape, I edit, and release things. I have not released everything, and it is not because I am a hoarder or I do not want to share, it is about logistics of time, resources, etc. It would be nice to open my hard drive for sharing, but bandwidth and my time cost. Not just in monetary terms, but in quality of everyday life terms.

I enjoy what I do, but it is a hobby, and hobbies are done in free time.
So people have to wait, big deal, some people have more free time than others and some have different priorities.

If you want a show that badly, very simply tape it yourself.

I have given stuff to other people to edit and post on the tracker, and they have done a great job. It takes time to pass on the raw recordings to others to do the job, and also to find people that have the equipment and software to do it. There is also a trust issue also. I have had cases where people do not give credit where credit is due.

So relax, take a pill, smoke some pot, or what ever you do, just do it and QUIT WHINING!.

what about the days when there was no technology to do this! all taped shows do is help relive the memory.even without boots we still have the memory!
