Hi everyone, I just found this site today after I made a torrent of hip bootlegs and was looking for places to post it too. It`s great to see so many other obsessed Hip fans out there 8)

Anyways, I come with an ambitious plan, to collect as many old hip shows as I can and put them in one easy large torrent for everyone. I think it would be much easier to keep 1 file seeding then 100s of smaller files. My first release is all the stuff I have from 1985 to the end of 1995. I`m sure it is not complete and probably has mistakes in it, but it`s a start. (let me know if you find mislabeled songs or have stuff I didn`t and can help me out).

Well, what`s everyone thoughts on this? Does it sound like a plan or a waste of time for me? (took a long time to tidy up all the files and make sure the song names were in the filename, lol). Also how many people are mad at me for using .mp3s rather then the huge (but better quality) uncompressed files? ...And, would having all the hip shows backed up in one torrent take all the fun out of collecting every show for the new comers? :P

Hi Adam!
Welcome to the 'base!

I think you have genuinely posted your torrent on the tracker with good intentions but I think you will find that you probably won't get a lot of people downloading - mostly for the reasons that you have already stated.

.FLAC is the file of choice for audio trading. It is larger than MP3's but has so many other advantages, too many to list here.

But good on ya for trying!
Enjoy your time here! :thumb:

On the flip side of what Trev said, there are still a lot of fans who just want MP3s.

Trev and I started the tracker site with the intention of spreading the music and growing our own collections. That said, your torrent accomplishes both.

Yeah, for serious audiophiles i know mp3s just don't do it (especially if they want to edit the sound to try and improve it). Guess the purpose of this collection is just to let newcomers sample everything so they can find out which bootlegs they want to look for, and for the causal listeners who just want some new mp3s to throw on their iPods.

Wow, so far 10 people downloading, that's actually more then i expected, lol.

Check that again Adam... 3, not 10. The 10 are on a very similar project except it's all FLAC. (And more than twice the size!)

Personally, i love to get shows in Flac or Shn format, just to get the best possible quality, and they both do a pretty decent job with compression. I found lately, though, that i've been compressing the shows i don't listen to frequently, or the ones that are low quality to begin with, to MP3. I keep an external drive to store my shows, and its been getting tight. I don't find much use for burning shows any more either, with the advent of portable mass-media i find i haven't touched my cd collection in many months. but, i do like the choice of compressing the files myself, and i have never traded or distributed an mp3 show(barring shows that i rec'd already compressed). so, maybe i am a semi-audiophile. I love the idea, adam, some others lately have been trying to do some similar ideas.

I was going by how many my peers my client was sending too, its a multi-tracker torrent so not everyone downloading shows up on the list the website keeps. (multi-tracker torrents are allowed here, right? hope i didnt break a rule)

I think a lot of people would echo your sentiments! I agree that space is a real issue these days. Faster connection speeds meant faster downloads. Then it meant higher quality downloads. Finally it is a super-high quality downloads at a fairly reasonable speed. So when I see something in MP3, I am prone to pass on it because I know that there is better quality out there.

Plus, like you, I like to convert the files myself. It isn't that hard and you have a lot more control.

Adam: I hope I didn't discourage you. There are still a lot of people out there who would love to get their hands on the shows that you have, MP3 or not. Thanks for sharing your collection with the rest of the community!
