Hello all,
I was wondering if one (or several) of you kind Hip fans might be able to list the top 5 "must have" Hip DVDs that are currently circulating within the community.
Are there many 'pro shot' shows?
What are the top 'fan taped' shows?
A kind soul has offered to B&P a few shows for me but I'm not sure which ones I should get.
Any information would be greately appreciated.
THANKS!

Detroit, MI 2004-09-18,
Wasaga Beach, ON 2004-07-11
Sydney, NS 2004-12-04

are my 3 favourites from the last tour! Can't go wrong with any or all of these :thumb:

For older shows, my 3 faves are:
Halifax, NS 1990-04-02 (pro-shot Much Music)
Markham, ON 1993-07-23 (shaky picture but great show)
Toronto, ON 1993-09-05 (pro-shot Kumbaya Festival)

Hope this helps! :D

Any other 'fan favorites'? I'm curious to know what the 2002 European shows look like (ie Paradiso Club, Utrecht, etc...)

There aren't many, only three I can think of, "Pro-Shot" Hip DVDs (Nachtwerk, Misty Moon, Kumbaya) - and they aren't the best quality in terms of picture/sound, as they are VHS transfers.

I'm biased with regards to favourite fan recorded DVDs as I'm a taper, and did the DVD authoring on a few more of 2004 DVDs.

I'd definitely recommend getting the Detroit show - 4 camera angles/ DAT sound. I put a lot of effort into this one, and I think it shows.

Wasaga was a fun afternoon show, so the image is clear, and it gives a good sense of being there.

The European shows have steady camera work, but the sound leaves something to be desired. This is not to say they are bad, quite the opposite, but it's my opinion. Most were shot by the same dude, and have similar "production" values.

Check out www.lancerobinson.com/dvd for additional info relating to Hip DVDs.

Chris,
Thanks for the info. The www.lancerobinson.com/dvd site is real helpful... it's aways nice to see a few screen shots of the shows in question. Shannon has been nice enough to offer to B&P a few shows for me, I think I'll add Detroit '04 to the list... alonmg with Misty Moon '90, and 11/10/2002.
Cheers!

not to brown nose too much but the shows that were made by chris and his crew are heads and shoulders above anything out there. also, a tip of the cap to BIG A who's portland and seattle show are great too.
from previous tours the hamilton's new years shows are pretty
cool as well as boston 7-27-02.
this has been a ground breaking time for the quality of shows and not just shows by the hip. viva the revolution!!!!!!

You have to own Wasaga. It's the "H2" to a Hip fans "O"

It's a must just for the "Sod Company" and "Here come the tits!" rants, plus the reaction ABAC gets from the crowd... chills.

I think its amateur charm has a lot to do with the fact that no other concert recording I've seen has so accurately captured what it felt like being there. Each time I see a bit of it, I feel like I'm in the sand again, and really wish I was.

Highly recommended.

Chris,
I am a very big hip fan. I have been a lurker on this site for some time. I am really interested in adding some dvd's to my collection. I would like to know how I could go about getting the 2004 Detroit Fox show (I was there,2nd row). I am also interested in getting the 2003 Edge show at Molson Park. I don't have any DVD's for trade but I will arrange to pay for them. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Scott,

Rule #1 with fan recordings is never pay for them.

All the shows you want can be acquired through trades (which you can't do... yet) B&Ps or downloads.

Check out the following sites:

You can download the Detroit show from this site.

I finally found a screen cap from the Detroit DVD that I've been looking for for ages and have to share it.
It's a testament to Chris's mad editing skills.

Yeah, and if the pic gets no response I'm gonna give it it's own thread in TTH discussion. That's all.

I really need to update my dvd site. I have a huge pile of disc I need to go through. Probably on a cool winter's eve it will get done.

Couldn't agree with you more Dame on two out of the three items you listed. Not too sure about what "Sod Company" was but the "Here come the tits" rant and the crowd appreciation for ABAC was simply astounding!

is the Detroit DVD still being seeded? Not sure how I missed out on this one. Looks great!
