Hmmmm.... another complaint about something free.

There are a limited number of download spots (5 at last check) and a limited number of upload slots. If all the slots are full, download speeds are going to be slow.

With a maximum of transfer rate of about 45kb/s; divide that by 5 or more users, and you've got your answer.

And all this assumes that Jerremy (the site owner) isn't using his connection for anything else.

Be patient. It's still faster than waiting for Canada/US Post, and it costs less. :)

If you have issues with a site, it's usually best to address the site owner directly. Right on the main page of thehundredthmeridian.com, Jerremy has posted his email address.

Well... Chris DID answer the guy's question, so I can't quite understand giving him a hard time over it. I don't know if I would have reacted that way... but then again I'm not one of the guys putting in a lot of hard work to provide us fans with access to websites, DVDs, etc. for free, only to have more people complain than they ought to.

If he told the guy to f$@# off then I could understand getting upset... but since he didn't, well maybe we should just chill...

Just my opinion...

Hmmm another one of my posts, where I answered a question, that tragicallymike had to criticize.

What Chris said is exactly correct.

As I have posted a few times before, the site is an old G4 Mac running CrushFTP.

It connects to the net via Road Runner which is a cable connection.

There are 5 open slots for downloading.

The best outgoing speed I have seen is 50k. So as Chris mentioned, divide that by 5, and that will be your usual speed on a GOOD day.

I won't recount the story as to why I like to have this site up, but doing so KILLS my bandwidth. Loading webpages and checking email is sometimes painfully slow. But I do it because I like to have the site up… and I do occasionally take it down to play a little Halo or Madden on my Xbox.

It's as fast as it can be. It has been slower than usual the past few days because I was downloading something in the evening.

I wish I had an Xserve with a TB of storage and a T3 into my office.

It is a little funny to me that some people fail to see or understand Chris' frustration... Although I do get emails from users of the FTP saying thanks for the site, as with just about everything in life, the people that complain or say something derogatory are always the loudest and make the biggest impact on you.

I've had emails or even posts on this board that have ranged from, your site is too slow, your site sucks, I can't connect to your site - what are you doing that I can't connect, how come you only let 5 people on at a time - I can't get in.

It's a bummer.

...And as I said above, I do get great emails from people who just want to say hi, say thanks, etc. I also get nice emails from people who ask for help because they can't connect, etc. I always respond to try to get them set up properly to connect.

But, damn... That one email or post from someone complaining. It gets to ya.

Ditto. Thanks SRB.

All the constant slagging on others, especially Chris, is really getting on my nerves. It seems as if there are more posts now dedicated to people's bitching at seeders than thanking them!

Many Hipsters saw these ignorant leecher attitudes eroding our general goodwill at least 6-8 months ago, if not a year ago. Now I know it wasn't such a bad idea to take a 5-month break from the Hipbase after this year's club shows in June.

Jeremy, I'm subscribing to xbox live this weekend for a birthday present to myself...(any tips) I've completed Halo2 and I'm a big NFK2K5 guy (better than madden in my opinion)... I'll challenge you to a game when I'm done..

also...there are not enough ways to thank you for all the joy I've gotten from your services...

I just found out about this site from someone in this forum and I think it is amazing. I was able to see Gord's 2 solo videos for the first time thanks to Jerremy. And it was all for free - yay! :D
I didn't find it slow at all...it was actually faster than I expected.
Thanks Jerremy - it is an awesome site! :thumb:

Sorry to complain, more a curiosity than anything. Besides, not to toot, but many of those shows back in the early days were liberated through me. FearNoArt and I worked hard to get a lot of that stuff out there...

Fearnoart was a great site. I was really upset when you shut it down. I got alot of my early Hip videos from that site.

All the rare vids came from me, Jason was kind enough to host and distribute them. Whatever happened to him? An aside, Scooby is going to convert my old vhs Hip collection to DVD in the new year, I'll be happy to share with everyone when it's done. This is all the rare stuff that popped up around 2000-2001... I'm getting married in January so my focus is on that, I'll keep you posted...
