What is the best free DVD burning software you have come across? I use Nero Start Smart but, the issue I have is I can't use the DVD menu to select/play a song. I need to play the whole show and just fast forward if needed. Also, most Hip DVD's I've downloaded are not in 5.1 sound. Is that just the way they were recorded or is that something to do with my burning software?

I haven't tried it out yet, but I've read lots of good reviews for Imgburn, which is free to download (just google it). Not sure why Nero wouldn't be including the menus unless there is some setting that is telling Nero to make it a load-and-play dvd (bypassing menus & chapters). It shouldn't be doing this by default, but I haven't used Nero in years so I can't comment with certainty.
For my recent dvds, while I had video footage that had been filmed in 5.1 surround, the external audio sources I used was stereo, and I wouldn't know how to make 2-channel into 5.1.
I think most "tapers" only record in stereo anyway, as I'm not aware of any 5.1 boots.

imgburn is great, as long as you are burning a .iso file. it doesn't burn .vob files to make a DVD

yes, essentially you use imgburn to build the .iso and then burn it. it is an extra step, that's all
