You should set the port number(s) in the bitTorrent client you are using. If you have a router between your computer and your cable modem, you also need to set the same port range on the router's port-forwarding/application settings. I'm not familiar with an issue using the specific port number you mention. I believe I have my port number range set from 10000 through 10010 or something along those lines.

What program are you using?

If you have a router, visit portforward.com for help.

Most ISPs block Bit Torrent traffic on ports 6881 - 6889 as they were the first ports used by this technology.

You need to change the ports in your Bit Torrent program (I suggest uTorrent, Vuze or Transmission), your firewall (hardware or software) and your router (if you have one).

Let's start with the torrent program and work from there.

i'm using Bittorent 3.4.2 it has to be one of the earliest ones and i've used it for years with no problems. i find no way to alter anything with this program. But i'll follow the advice and see if i can get going. i'll start with a new program. Thanks for your time! :thumb:

[[b]color=#400080][Mr. Dave and SRB thanks for lending a hand with my dilema. I'm a bit embarassed at how easy it was to get things going. Ijust didn't know if it had to do with the program i was using or my internet provider or what. all it took was to get a newer different Torrent program and just like that i'm back in business and downloading away. Thanks for taking the time!!

I need to pay more attention to what account I'm logged in with when I'm using someone else's computer...

Looks like I racked up a bunch of posts as Mr. Dave last night!

For about a week I have been having troubles with my port. One day it started saying "not connectable" and hour later it works fine. It really is pissing me off.

Since I posted this an hour ago it's fine and I did nothing.
