Question for Tapers

Been away for a while, with the evening with format announced I am excited to catch a bunch of shows this year and start taping again. I was wondering what guys are using these days?
I have a galaxy Audio HDR 2 and was wondering if anyone has experience with it. I still have my mics and what not from SP. With the new technology out I want to see what people are using? If the HDR is not adequate I will pick something else up.
I plan on attending and taping at least 8 shows and if I can remember my tracker password I will upload them to it.
Thanks! It is good to be back

Welcome back. And if you can't remember your password, let me know.
I have a Tascam DR1 with Church Audio battery box and mics but haven't recorded The Hip with it yet.
I'll let the others chime in on what's good, bad, otherwise, etc, etc...

thanks chris, I had you reset it for me a while ago and then I noticed that it was listed under my old email address.
I**** I actually logged in to the tracker this morning, so disregard, but i have lost all my stats? any idea how that happened?
back on topic. The guy at soundprofessionals told me the HDR2 would work fine for live recording, i wanted to see what others thought. I am going to try a few local shows first to see how they turn out.
thanks

All the stats were wiped when the site was hacked a year ago. And they don't really matter - it's just used to prevent new users from registering, downloading everything, and then leaving without sharing back.
Since inception 4 years ago, less than 10 users have been kicked because of ratio issues.
The specs of the device read as though it should be fine. It's only 16bit so some purists may not like it, but otherwise you should be good to go.

thanks chris, i have a whole new set up here at home so i will be able to seed almost non stop. I just need to read the faqs on the tracker and get my torrents set up
As far as the 16bit thing goes. I used to use MD and have mics in my baseball hat and never had any complaints?
I will give it a shot before the tour and see how it sounds, then decide on upgrading.
Thanks!

Don't read the FAQ on the site - read what I posted here at Hipbase:

While 24 bit is better, it cant be burned to audio cd. 16 bit is still the norm.
Do hip tapers just walk into Stadiums with a mic stands and bag of gear and say "Im here to tape" ?
I know the band allows taping but I would think it would be hard to convince security of this fact.
I am interested in taping the hip but havnt because of this. Is there no official policy on the bands stance on taping?
Any help appreciated

It's you opinion that 24 bit is better. In my opinion, many/most listeners don't notice a difference between 16 and 24 and many/most sources don't benefit from 24 bit. But this debate can rage on for ever, as it is at taperssection.com...
The Hip and their management do an excellent job of informing security and venue staff that taping is allowed, and that there will be fans with recording gear coming to the shows.
Get there early, be nice to the security staff and you should be fine. If the security member you encounter doesn't know of their policy ask for someone more senior, and for that person to contact The Hip's head of security or road manager.
We've lugged in multiple mic stands and camera stands without issue - even to the "That Night In Toronto" DVD filming. I posted my DVD version to our tracker.

Do you tape from your seat or around the sbd area? If you dont have a floor ticket is there any use?
Thanks

It depends on the venue but the simple answer is both - from your seat and/or from the soundborad area.
