Welcome! I just got back from Alberta. We were in Banff on Sunday and it was politely snowing, just beautiful.

that is pretty awesome that you're driving your family down from NWT for the show, the skiing should be good, they've finally installed some much needed snow making equipment at Marmot Basin..

Thanks, first concert for the kids. Well, we saw Blue Rodeo at a festival in Normal Wells, NWT. First time skiing for them to. Plus they get to miss a week of school.

As a young camper at Camp Timberlane (near Haliburton, ON) in the early 90s, I was a big fan of canoe tripping. On one particular trip, a tripper who shall remain nameless (HAPPY guy, tho) brought a little stereo that would sit in our canoe, playing hip all day while on the water. From there it was over, I was gone.

hilight was the IVL release show at club 107 with 120 other people in a venue the size of the Leafs dressing room.

not a trader per-se, only copied a bunch of tapes from friends, which don't get played anymore for technology reasons. I'm looking to build a CD collection via download, so if anyone can help me with that, that'd be nice. Hipbase has been good but i can't get enough uploads to keep share ratio high enough so i feel bad downloading.

Also, varsity lacrosse player at u of t, law student, and professional poker player.

EDIT: not hipbase, i meant the hipfans torrent tracker. i also know through friends (though met him only a couple years ago) shkuntz/aka josh, notorious punching bag for hip security and billy ray

It recently dawned on me that I'm now at 75 posts and probably have never introduced myself which is an oversight i should correct.

Being a tad on the older side my connection to The Hip has come through our children. Our oldest son, Chris, became a huge fan of the band at the time of Road Apples, Fully Completely, Day For Night. Their music was always on around the house and in the car etc. He would travel wherever he could to see them, occasionally (and begrudgingly) taking his younger brother along with him.

As fate would have it, my next encounter with The Hip would come when our younger son, James, would put together a band (The Spades). Early on the band agreed to do an 8 week residency (Wednesdays) at The Merchant Tap House in Kingston. Now those of you from Kingston know that the college/university folks go out on Thurs. nite, the townfolk go out on Fri/Sat nite and no one goes out on Wed nite. So week after week, James and the lads would load the old van and travel from Peterborough to Kingston to play for a small handful of family, friends and strangers.

Then one Wednesday evening, a young lady came up to him after the show and said how much she had enjoyed it. She said she was going to bring her husband, who also played in a band, down the next week to hear them. James said o yeah and asked politely what the name of her husband's band was. She replied: "The Tragically Hip."

True to her word, she was there the next week.....with her husband, Gord Sinclair, and as many on here know Gord went on to produce the band's first CD and, with him, they are now in the process of finishing up the second.

I guess it's no coincidence that my favourite Hip albums - Road Apples + Fully Completely + In Between Evolution + World Container are reflective of these two encounters.

Although I've not always agreed with everyone, I've come to appreciate the great level of passion there is on here for The Hip and the tremendous level of musical expertise in general. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of it. I apologize for having taken so long to do this (and for being so long-winded in the doing)

Your son is in The Spades . They are definetly one of the most talented acts that Canada has ever produced. I am a fan!

Yes, our son, James (McKenty) is in the band along with Tom Street and Chachi Robichaud.

woah... your son is James McKenty? Haha I find that awesome. I think most Hipbasers who have heard their music really likes it. I've been trying to find their new disc here in Halifax, but have come up short. I guess I'll have to search for it online and beg someone to let me use their credit card! Anyways, welcome to the Hipbase!

Sean, the new CD isn't out yet and probably won't be until the new year, although I haven't talked to James recently so that's not 100%.
