You must have been on the Robby's side in the stands, that was the sitting side where Pauls side was the standing side.

Seriously, one guy almost got his ass kicked and thrown out of the show for standing up in section 104, it was really weird, there was almost nobody on Robby's side standing, so to prevent me or my gear getting wrecked I stayed seated as well, the show was good but I think I get more sore from sitting for 2hrs than I do standing for 2hrs.

The crowd did stand up for the encore thought but while the band was playing Escape most of this side sat back down again,

New quote from Gord tonight starting Family Band
- "You wanna be in our Family Band? All you have to do is stand"

So there you go folks, stand up and boogie

this show was fucking awesome what a stellar performance man johnny fay was absolutely incredible the entire show holy smokes. wow what a drummer he was the shit tonight and hes growing his hair again the whole concert was like watching him play drums in the blow at high dough video. they played hang on to yourself and escape is at the hands of a travellin man which was absolutely beautiful that was one of the highlights to go down in the record books. of course the walking on the moon thing that was awesome. also i dont remember what song but in the middle of another tune near the beginning of the show, rob baker was playing some different guitar parts that sounded like riffs from early hip tunes. damnit i cannot recall the song we'll wait until the recording gets out. gord sinclair was noticeably very laid back tonight i dunno how to explain it he just didnt seem into the show too to much but rocked a little. the crowd was boring but severely into it during every other song mostly the older stuff. its oshawa cmon first major concert here in town since well... pretty much ever in history! and it was the hip! inxs dont count they arent real anymore and then theres the keith richards thing but that was 1979. so officially The Tragically Hip concert from tonight is technically the first wicked and big type show the city has ever seen. rock the f**k on!

Free pass, 3 songs with chris chris...warming trev's seat and then into the behind the scenes area.... on Pauls side... I snapped a few shots of the boys from behind and even went old school and pulled out my MiniDV and shot about 50min. of the show... hand picking songs. I'll try to Youtube 100th M & maybe Escape..or Nautical since I zoomed in on Chris videoing during this one....

For now here are some not so great pics for those who can't wait for Trev's Debut from the pit!

A few of my favourite quotes tonight?

Gord opened the show with a nod of the cap to Sean Bonner and his sig...

"You can do it...And if you can't, we're here..."

And from Music@Work into Grace...."War is Work..."

Good show, my first of the arena tour, so yeah, I was a bit surprised at everyone sitting...

That being said, it's Oshawa, and I'm assuming many in attendance just finished 12 hour shifts at the plant....

but they recorded the show tonight i spoke with the sound guy earlier in the day when i went to the arena to hassle the crew.

Sounds like a good night! :D I'm glad everyine had a good time. I'm looking forward to Trevor's pics. :thumb: Also, it's good to see Long Time Running and Escape Is At Hand... in the setlist.

It's weird how the crowd were divided with the seating/standing thing. I guess that's just the way it goes.

Steve, did you not tape the show if you couldn't stand up then?

There are tiny camera's mounted along the stage and that is what you get to see on the bigscreens, and the band records everyshow, not always to video but definitly audio

That's cool, although I'm suprised that they have never released more 'official' recordings like Pearl Jam in that case.

pretty good show. first time having front row for a seated concert. the middle of row 1 was filled with some middle aged folks that sat, i think, the whole night. about 5 or 6 songs in, im not sure who he was, but i think head of venue or band security, drew up a sign on a big piece of cardboard that read "boring old farts" with an arrow pointing downwards. he passed this off to the people in row 2 and had them hold it over the sitters. thats the part when gord d. says "thats not nice". i thought it was pretty funny.

the sitting thing is tough to deal with...
I don't like sitting either IT SUCKS...but consider this.

The Hip's been pounding the air waves for 20 years. Now if you had a fan who was even 35 back then ...they are now 55. ( I'm 45..lol)..

Its a bit hard to expect them to stand for 2 solid hours...don't get me wrong I HATE SITTING but there is the reality of the diverse ages that The Hip appeals to ...
just my thoughts...sounds like it was a great show..of course :thumb:

I think you were sitting directly across from me...were you the one with the camera mounted on the tripod? If that was you, I was across the aisle in 103 wearing the Sleater-Kinney "SHOW ME YOUR RIFFS" t-shirt--so yup, Robby's side, and you're right, it was actually sorta weird how the people around us weren't standing up. Again, it's just a minor annoyance, but I'd at least like the option of standing without having to worry that I'm upsetting the people behind me. Ugh.

 LMAO!

I was on the left side as well, on the floor and it was definitely the sitting side. I seemed to be the only one in my section that was into the WC songs. However, the crowd seemed to be full of Durham College/UOIT kids so maybe they were there only for the token bar songs (i.e. NOIS).

Who was the guy with the cool camera at the front? Was that MAv?

Also, what the heck was the meaning behind the dump trucks and dirt projecting on the screen during NOIS? Was it to imply that they were filling in New Orleans so that it wouldn't sink anymore? I didn't get it.

MAv was at the front with a camera and a crazy rig to hold it...

The dump trucks, and other random images have been up behind different songs... so I imagine that they mean nothing, and that the connection you made is based more on coincidence than anything else... :thumb:

Great shots Jeffro! You had some great sight lines from side stage! Would have loved to have been there!

And thanks for the kind words to all who are waiting to see some of my snaps from the Media Pit. It was pretty crazy up there and I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I got a little overwhelmed by it all! In a good way of course! Thanks so much to MAv for hookin' that up!

Bad bad work has gotten in the way of me taking a look at what I got from last night. I sure hope they are good!

More later...
