i guess i am spoiled by the DMB community where no one would even think of doing this.

there are always B&P offers for DVD's that don't cost anything.

That would be nice Mark, but at the same time I'm not complaining!
I'm just happy not to have't to pay 30 bucks like I said for one DVD.

Maybe if someone did think of doing this , covering cost and giving to charity , the world might be a little better place to live in .

if someone did this in the DMB community, i think they would be shot. they take trading and stuff quite seriously.

either way, i know it is a great way to do the community a favor. i personally, have a thing against it.

btw, do the dvd's have menu's and chapter markings?

Having picked up a dozen or so DVDs from Peter's various offers over the past few months, I thought I'd chime in on this...

First off, to answer your question Mark, yes, the majority of the DVDs (particularly the newer ones from the European tour and the two Copps shows) have a main menu and chapter markings and are very professionally packaged...

Some of the older shows (which were transferred directly from old VHS or MPG files) don't have menus, etc, but who cares - remember, these are BOOTLEGS!!!

As for the money thing, the way I look at it, if Gordie can charge $10 a boot for audio on his current tour, getting a (for the most part) high quality VIDEO (DVD) of a show for $5 or less (depending on the offer) is beyond reasonable, especially considering that includes the cost of blanks and postage (regardless of where you are!)...The charitable component is an added bonus, and I have absolutely no reason to believe the money goes anywhere than where it is intended to go.

On a side note to any folks out there who may be tentative...My dealings with Peter have been very pleasurable - I've dealt with super "Super Sellers" on eBay who can't hold a candle to the way he goes about his business (and I use that word very loosely)...Keep up the great work Peter!

Anyway, I was watching the November 9th show last night (from Gronigen, Holland) and I'd highly recommend it to any Hip diehard, particularly those who think Gordie's "lost his edge" recently...awesome quality (at certain points, you can count the beads of sweat on his GDs forehead!) ...

As a final note, I think it's pointless to compare the DMB fanbase to that of the Hip...sure, they may trade freely, but they're also 100x the size of the diehard Hip fanbase, meaning just by sheer numbers there are alot more people out there willing to do things for free...and yes, I am also a DMB fan, albeit a moderate...

From where I sit, if we didn't have people like Peter, Rory and Lance (among others) out there, we wouldn't have access to this stuff at all...don't complain! Just enjoy the music!

Just my $0.02...

cool

i know they are bootlegs. i have been a member of the trading community for a number of years. i remember when 2:1's were common. ;)

hehehe. don't even get my started on the $10 downloads for MP3's.

once again, i don't mean to insinuate that peter is doing anything but donating the money.

but again. i can't help but think i am buying bootlegs. something i feel can jeopardize the open taping policy of the band.
On a side note to any folks out there who may be tentative...My dealings with Peter have been very pleasurable - I've dealt with super "Super Sellers" on eBay who can't hold a candle to the way he goes about his business (and I use that word very loosely)...Keep up the great work Peter!
i know Peter is a stand up guy. i have dealt with him in the past. he is a great guy.

the fanbase is larger, yes, but if you look at the tapers-to-fans ratio, it is small. there are a handfull of tapers that record 85% of the shows. they record the show, rip the DAT (or from laptop) to WAV to SHN and then upload it to a server. sometimes in a matter of a couple days. one show was available online within 12 hours of the show ending. that is a lot of work for them. but no money exchanges hands there.

trees are setup to help get DVD's out. there are a number of B&P offers for CD's and DVD's.

i would argue that our small fanbase would work to our advantage in that it would be easy for everyone to get a copy of the show. is peter the only one on this board and henhouse with a DVD burner?

i agree. rory and i traded tapes for a couple years before i got out of it. he was able to continue and has accumulated a large collection of tapes.

i have quite a few too. i have 300 or so pearl jam and about 200 hip. all analog ;)

again, i know that peter is doing the community a great service. i can't vouch for the quality of the DVD's because i have not seen one.

anyway, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks for the input Mark!

I guess at the end of the day, I don't see the difference between going out and purchasing a blank DVD yourself and doing a B&P and what Peter's doing (where he's the one who buys up the discs and covers shipping)...

"Money" in some form or another (eg. the cost incurred when the recipient buys the blanks and necessary return and direct postage) always enters the equation...

okay I don't have too much time to respond because I'm just about to leave, but I'll throw in my 2 cents in quickly (I'll probably forget something).... first I had asked the Hip if I could do this and they said that I could so that should put some people's minds at ease.. second from a package of dvds only about $5-8 comes out of it after all the costs of blanks + postage is incurred. .. considering I can usually buy the blanks for cheaper than most people (I refuse to buy them unless I can get them for somewhat of a good deal) and that you don't have to pay for shipping them out to me that money saved goes to charity... for those who might be weary of me actually keeping the money, you have ever right to be suspicious, but in all honesty do you think I'd even think of keeping like $50 a month and risk getting in some serious trouble with the law? I would be an idiot if I did this considering I've got a good job too. It just wouldn't make any sense for me to risk The reason why I don't do B&P is first, if you're from Canada you'll most likely be paying about $5 a blank dvd to begin with which is ridiculous and I don't wnat you spending that much... and also I would be SWAMPED by too many requests.. I'm pretty swamped as it is, and I don't even make that many copies for people...

anyway I appreciate criticism from both ends since I'll be able to improve things for everyone in the future..
